FAQs

How often should I sealcoat my asphalt driveway or parking lot?

There a several factors to consider when answering this question. Weather, and the amount of traffic flow seem to effect the asphalt the most. The general rule of thumb is to sealcoat asphalt every 2-3 years.

What are some other names for asphalt sealcoating and asphalt?

There are a few common terms that refer to asphalt sealer, or asphalt sealcoating. Examples include driveway sealant, asphalt sealant, asphalt coating, coal tar. Asphalt (different from asphalt sealer) is sometimes called blacktop or pavement.

What type of sealer do you use?

We use Sealmaster LV asphalt sealer on all of our driveways and parking areas. Sealmaster LV is a mixture of coal tar based sealer and asphalt based sealer.

What is the difference between replacing asphalt and resurfacing asphalt?

When we replace asphalt, we remove the existing asphalt, regrade the area and apply new asphalt in the same area. Resurfacing asphalt (also known as "capping") is when we put another layer of asphalt over the existing asphalt. Though this option will not last as long as replacing the asphalt, it is a more cost effective option to consider when your current asphalt has failed.
