Best Electricians in Lakewood, CO

These are a couple of problems I've come across recently that are unfortunately all too common. nPhoto 1: Broken conduit. This is the result of improper connections and support. This poses a risk of damage to the wire, which can cause a fire or shock hazard.nnPhoto 2: Unprotected wire splice. This is a sign of a lazy electrician. Any time wires are spliced, the connection must be contained in a junction box. The method shown exposes the connection to damage and can start fires or shock someone if they come into contact with itnnPhoto 3: Backstabbing receptacle. This method of wiring a receptacle (outlet) is permitted when done correctly, but as you can see here, the wires have exposed live copper and are pulling out. Personally, I prefer to wrap the wires around the screws, but at the very least you need to make sure the wire is stabbed in fully without any exposed copper to prevent arcing and accidental contact with a person or other wires.nnPhoto 4: Double lugged nuetrals. This one is hard to see from this picture, but here, the nuetral wire (white) is under the same screw as the ground (bare copper). While it is permitted to have multiple ground wires under a screw sometimes, a nuetral or hot (usually black or red) must have its own terminal. This is because they carry electricity and expand and contract. This can result in a loosening of the connection if there is another wire expanding at a different rate.nnPhoto 5: Mixmatched breakers. Electrical panels are almost always brand specific. They have been tested for certain compatible breakers, which are almost always limited to the manufacturer of the panel. Many times, an electrician will put a breaker that is not approved in a panel simply because it fits, but this can cause serious problems due to the buildup of heat. Just because a breaker fits does not mean it's safe.nnIf you have any of these situations or would like an electrical inspection of your home or business, call Electric Sun. While electricity poses some inherit risks, it is an essential part of our lives and when handled by a qualified professional, it is as safe as anything else in our lives.
