Do any of these firms design without charging?
Free design or a free consultation is advertised by 17 of the 24 listings for Braintree. Free design is normally tied to buying the cabinets from that firm, and the drawings stay theirs. A paid design fee usually buys plans you can take to another bidder, which is what makes prices comparable.
