As part of Exterior Renovations for this house in the Southpointe neighborhood in Hoover off of Shades Crest road, we are replacing two exterior door units! Unfortunately for these new homeowners, we have discovered damage to the subfloor at the door entrance, in large part because the door unit was damaged at the bottom and so is allowing driven rain to enter the structure. In order to effect repairs, the flooring must be removed. The new owners found some flooring on hand left by the original builder, but it is not enough material, nor is it in good enough condition to use. It was stored in the attic, now warped and will not lay flat due to moisture content. In the pictures you can see a sample board from Shaw Flooring of the current version of this material. We are amazed at how close the color is and equally amazed it is a match for us to use! Without a match, the owners were looking at one viable option and one cost prohibitive option; Option #1 would have been to replace this area of flooring with a tile of their selection to provide a different entrance, or Option #2 was to replace all the hardwood flooring on this main level.
