Smoke chamber repair/parge. This is the area above the firebox. Smoke chambers need to be parged completely with a UL Listed insulated refractory cement. When a smoke chamber has cracks, gaps, or corbeled bricks it will need to be fully parged. If your smoke chamber is not parged ,then it is in fact not code compliant. This can also result in draft issues, and creosote build up making your fireplace a potential fire hazard.
