If you are having foundation issues with your home, you may want to check to see if there are mature trees growing nearby. Tree roots can extend far and wide and in some cases can cause the foundation of a home to be unlevel. Typically if a root makes it to your home, one of two things will take place. The root will physically push against your foundation and raise or the root will absorb the moisture in the soil and cause the foundation to sink. The best way to prevent roots from getting near your home is to properly plan ahead of time and place a root barrier in any area of a new build that a tree might be able to grow roots to. If your home is already built, you can excavate and have a root barrier put in place as well. Root barriers come in a few different forms. Read more about them in our latest post.
