Do septic tanks smell?

Nope; or at least they shouldn't. It's not the tank that smells, it's the "stuff" inside it. Joking aside, you should not be able to "smell" a properly installed septic tank. If you do, then you have a problem and you should give us a call.

How do I reset my septic tank alarm?

Septic tank alarm systems are not designed to be reset like an alarm clock. When your tank alarm goes off, it is tell you that you have a problem that needs immediate attention. The only way to "reset" the alarm is to fix the problem that caused the alarm in the 1st place.

How do you know if your drain field is bad?

The best way is to get your system inspected by a certified septic professional. There are a lot of people out there who are looking to pressure you into agreeing to a very expensive repair without doing the work needed to verify the source of the problem. Don't fall victim to fear tactics or high pressure sales people. Call us and find out why there is an issue. We will work with you to find the most cost effective solution possible.

Why does poop come up in my shower when I flush?

This happens when you have a blockage in the system. The shower drain is usually the lowest drain in house, and water naturally flows to the lowest possible point. On the upside, this is an indication that the blockage is likely not in the house piping. The vast majority of the work can be done from outside the house keeping your living area clean and sanitary. Can I install or make repairs to my own septic tank or system?

Not in Snohomish County. In fact, not in Washington State at all. Due to regulations relating to environmental protection and public health, the practice of allowing homeowners to install and/or repair their own systems has been discontinued. Not to be left out, these same regulations separated septic professionals into 3 different certification classes: certified septic pumper, certified septic system maintenance technician, and certified septic system installer. Each certification has limits to what they are allowed to do. Be careful, not everyone honors the rules and very few hold multiple certifications. It is best to know what you need before your choose who to hire. Let us help. We will answer any questions you may have and point you to the certified septic professional who is legally able to address your needs; even if that is not us.
