Repairs can be very difficult! This is about 8 years old and is already rotting out the osb and some framing. The homeowner pulled a bit off and after I inspected it, the problems were quick to solve. 1. Drip edge - (we didn't pull siding yet, but water is most likely getting in at the corner.) 2. OSB - when it gets wet it expands and cracks the corners. Plywood should be used. 3. Only 1 layer of tar paper - there should be 1 layer of tyvec followed by 2 layers of Waterproof Barrier (I prefer synthetic underlayment to tar paper) the extra mile involves adding Rain Screen, which I've started using on every exterior project. Now we get to match the stone and sills for the repair. This can be a daunting task with there being so many manufacturers of stone veneer. Also as time goes by they go through molds and need to replace them. After a few calls I narrowed it down and found the manufacturer. Luckily they still make this color however the molds have changed and they discontinued these sills. While we're going to have to make due with the stone molds being a bit different, they did dig around to find 1 mold for the sills!! So we'll be pretty close to a 100% match. I say all of this because "the other guys" told them this stone is gone and they don't make it anymore. I beg to differ! I'm glad I'm able to make this repair happen for them. I only wish they would have found me from the beginning to avoid all of these problems.
