How far down should I setback my thermostat?
Generally, we, and most HVAC companies, recommend that the thermostat should not be set back more than 3 degrees. For example, during heating season, if you are typically comfortable at 70 degrees Fahrenheit, then the thermostat should not be set lower than 67 degrees Fahrenheit when the home is unoccupied.
What does the tonnage of my system indicate?
Despite what it sounds like, the tonnage of an HVAC system does not have to do with its weight. A ton is a term of measurement that refers to the amount of heat the AC unit can remove from a home in one hour. Qualified HVAC companies will make sure that your AC tonnage is perfectly calibrated for your home or business.
What is emergency heat?
Emergency heat (also known as auxiliary heat) is when your system is running solely on its second stage heat source, which is usually your indoor unit. This setting is the second stage of heat that your thermostat transitions into when it is too cold for your heat pump to bring in heat from outside. Most HVAC companies will give a thorough explanation of how heat pumps work when they install them.
