Geothermal HVAC is a sustainable and energy-efficient technology that harnesses the Earth's constant temperature below the surface to provide heating, cooling, and hot water for residential and commercial buildings. The Earth's subsurface maintains a relatively constant temperature, making it a stable heat source or sink. Key components of a geothermal HVAC system include: A ground loop is a series of pipes buried in the ground, either horizontally in trenches or vertically in wells. The ground loop circulates a heat transfer fluid (usually a mix of water and antifreeze) that absorbs heat from the ground during the heating season or dissipates heat into the ground during the cooling season. The heat pump is the central unit inside the building that transfers heat between the ground loop and the building's heating or cooling distribution system. It works similarly to a conventional heat pump, but exchanges heat with the ground instead of the outdoor air. The geothermal HVAC system operates through the following processes: The ground loop absorbs heat from the Earth during heating season and transfers it to the heat pump. The heat pump then concentrates and circulates this heat through the building's distribution system (such as radiant floor heating or forced air). The cooling season, the process is reversed. The heat pump extracts heat from the building and transfers it to the ground through the ground loop, providing efficient cooling. Contact us today in Buda, TX.
