Out of precaution, they noticed suspect material in this plaster/lath wall and had it tested with a kit purchased from Home Depot. The lab report provided by this lab stated that the material was around 30% asbestos containing…which is certainly interesting and not common for this type of material 🤔 nnWe were invited to consult with the homeowner…we repeated the sampling using a different lab. Our lab partner found this material to be < 1% asbestos, which is more in line with our experience. Nonetheless, we recommended these walls to be encapsulated with a thick bridging encapsulant, so that as the homeowner proceeds with encasing these walls with drywall, there will be much lesser of a risk for exposure (nearly ZERO!) Removing the asbestos in this case would be next to impossible unless all the walls were demolished. nnWe love thinking outside the box of our traditional scope of work and helping homeowners move forward on their project.
