Should I install a center drain when remodeling my shower? If you are considering a center drain in your remodeled shower, it is imperative you check the placement of your joists to be certain they can accommodate the drain without obstruction. Do not assume a center drain is always best as it can be uncomfortable to stand on and can be insufficient to meet the standard 12-inch measurement from the shower head to the drain pipe. Perhaps a close-to-the-edge design would work better and requires the floor pan to be pitched in only one direction as opposed to four to dispose of the wastewater. Close-to-the-edge drains also have the added feature of having a sleek and contemporary design which will add value to your home.
