What are WATTS, AMPS and VOLTS?

A watt is a unit of power. It is defined as 1 joule per second. For example, a typical microwave uses around 1000 watts of electricity. Watts are calculated by a simple formula: voltage x amperage=Watts. Amperage or AMPS is the speed at which the electric signal travels or pushes down a wire. The calculation for AMPS is: 1amp x 5volts=5watts Voltage is the intensity of the electrical signal. High voltage is considered 600 volts and up, so a standard USB cable uses 5 volts.
