Can a new shingle roof be installed over my existing roof?

One layer of shingle roofing in decent condition may be able to sustain the installation of new asphalt shingles overtop. Two or more layers of shingles are probably not able to support new installation. Likewise, if the existing roof is badly buckled or if there is an accumulation of moss or algae, the old roof should be removed. When the decking needs to be inspected or replaced, the existing roofing should always be removed before installing a new roofing system.

Why is roofing ventilation important?

Inadequate roofing ventilation can cause condensation in the winter and excessively high shingle temperatures in the summer. Both of these extreme conditions are harmful to the overall roofing system and can be avoided with proper ventilation. Most shingle manufacturers offer warranties that are void without proper ventilation is not installed. Improper ventilation may also lead to serious conditions, such as structural damage and mold growth.

What is the replacement cost of a new roof for my home?

The cost of residential roof installation depends on a combination of many different factors. A good example is the size and pitch of the roof, as well as the roofing materials used.
